The Bear Brush was created to replace the flimsy, bendy scratchers with their tiny scratching heads. We designed a solid, wall-mounted solution that delivers consistent, satisfying relief for hard-to reach-itches.
Where a lifelong problem began
From Colorado Dry Skin to a Smarter Scratch
For most people, an itchy back is a small inconvenience. For Bear Brush founder Brad Drake, it was a lifelong problem that never seemed to have a real solution.
Growing up in the dry climate of Golden, Colorado, Drake can’t remember a time when his skin wasn’t itchy. Like many people, he relied on the familiar telescopic metal back scratchers—often handed out as birthday or Christmas gifts.
Small tools, bigger frustration

But they never worked. The tiny scratching head covered too little area, and by the time one itch was addressed, another had already popped up somewhere else.
“I felt like I was always chasing the itch,” Drake says. “By the time I scratched one spot, the original itch was already back.”
Improvising without results
When Nothing Worked
As he got older, he improvised. Door jambs became the next option—covering more surface area, but never comfortably or effectively.
The scratch was rough, inconsistent, and still unsatisfying. After years of searching, Drake realized there simply wasn’t a back scratcher that was big enough, sturdy enough, and effective enough to solve the problem in one motion.
Frustration turns into insight
The Moment It Clicked
The breakthrough came unexpectedly during a moment of pure frustration.
One week, while his wife was away and unable to help with an especially bad itch, Drake took matters into his own hands. He duct-taped an unused brush to a door jamb and scratched back and forth until—finally—the itch was gone.
“That was the moment it clicked,” he says.
Inspired by simplicity, built to solve
One Good Scratch Is All You Need
The solution reminded him of a childhood memory from Disney’s The Jungle Book: Baloo the Bear scratching his back against a tree. Not a tiny tool. Not a delicate motion. Just a large, solid surface that covered everything at once.
“That’s what I needed to create,” Drake explains. “A big, strong, flexible back scratcher—something that could cover a large area in one pass and actually finish the job.”
From that duct-taped prototype, Bear Brush was born. Today, Bear Brush is a wall-mounted back scratcher designed to replace flimsy handheld tools with a solid, always-ready solution. Its wide surface area, durable construction, and satisfying resistance are intentionally designed to scratch more area in less time—no chasing, no bending, no breaking.
Bear Brush isn’t about novelty. It’s about solving a simple, everyday problem better than it’s ever been solved before. Because sometimes, one good scratch is all you need.
